Solution
We delivered the Fractional CTO function across the full deal flow:
Technical due diligence assessments - structured evaluations of startup technology stacks for every deal with material technology risk. Each covered architecture review (design documents, system diagrams, key technical decisions), codebase health (code quality, test coverage, deployment practices), infrastructure review (cloud architecture, cost structure, scaling approach), security assessment (known vulnerabilities, access controls, data handling), engineering team assessment (size, seniority distribution, key-person risk), and technical debt quantification with estimated remediation cost and timeline. Findings documented in a standard report format the credit team could consume directly.
M&A transaction support - rapid technical assessments for acquisitions and mergers involving portfolio companies or targets, including IP ownership verification, integration complexity assessment, technology valuation input, and technical representation in deal negotiation where required.
Portfolio technology audit program - a recurring review cycle for the highest-value positions, tracking technology health over the life of each facility. Early warning indicators - key engineer departures, architecture decisions that increase scaling risk, security findings - surfaced to the deal team before they became credit events.
Deal process integration - we integrated into the deal workflow directly, attending deal team discussions, contributing to credit memos on technology-dependent deals, and turning around assessments quickly when timelines demanded it.
