how we work
AI creates velocity. Judgement gives it direction.
Every MINDEVOLVED engagement runs on principal-led delivery: a senior technical principal decides what is worth building, specifications turn that judgement into explicit intent, and our engineers and AI agents build against it. Nothing reaches production until it has been verified.
why it matters
The constraint has moved
For most of software's history, the constraint was how fast engineers could write code. AI is removing that constraint.
The new constraint is judgement. What should we build? How should it work? What should be delegated to agents, and what needs human attention? And how do we know that what was generated is actually correct?
Principal-led delivery is our answer. AI accelerates execution. It cannot replace ownership, judgement or accountability.
the delivery loop
Define, specify, build, verify, ship, learn
A loop, not a waterfall: what we learn in production feeds the next decision.
01
Define
Understand the business problem before solving the engineering one: the objective, the users, the constraints, the existing systems and the commercial context. This is where senior judgement has the most leverage.
02
Specify
Turn intent into something executable. Architecture, interfaces, acceptance criteria and implementation boundaries are made explicit, so engineers and agents work with minimal ambiguity. Specification before generation.
03
Build
Engineers and AI agents execute the specification. We use AI aggressively here, for implementation, tests, refactoring, documentation and investigation, while engineers stay responsible for the system being produced.
04
Verify
Working is not the same as correct. Output is reviewed against the original intent through code review, automated tests, security checks and architectural review. AI can help verify; accountability stays human.
05
Ship
Verified work goes to production with the monitoring to see how it behaves under real use.
06
Learn
Production reveals what no specification can predict. That information flows back into the next Define.
principal-led
Senior judgement, for the whole engagement
A senior technical principal stays close to the problem for the whole engagement, not just the kickoff. Their job is to make sure engineers and agents are solving the right problem, the right way.
The principal doesn't hand-write every line. Their highest-value contribution is judgement, applied continuously.
The principal decides
- what should be built, and what should not
- architecture and technical direction
- trade-offs and risk
- implementation boundaries and quality standards
- where AI is used, and where it isn't
- when something is ready to ship
humans and agents
We separate execution capacity from decision authority
Modern engineering teams are made of people and software agents. We treat them differently on purpose.
| Humans provide | Agents provide |
|---|---|
| Judgement | Leverage |
| Context | Speed |
| Accountability | Exploration |
| Ownership | Execution capacity |
An agent may write thousands of lines of code; that doesn't mean it owns the architecture. An agent may propose a solution; that doesn't mean the proposal is accepted. An agent may review another agent's work; that doesn't remove the need for an accountable human.
for you
What this means for you
The right thing gets built
The expensive mistakes happen before any code is written, so that's where our most senior attention goes.
Production, not demos
Work is specified, verified and shipped, with monitoring to see how it performs.
A clear line of accountability
One senior principal owns the technical direction, and you always know who that is.
An evidence trail
Specifications, reviews and test results are produced as part of the work, which is what regulated teams need when they're asked to show how a system was built.
principles
Our principles
- Judgement before execution
- Specification before generation
- AI as leverage, not authority
- Human ownership and accountability
- Verification before production
- Outcomes over code volume
- Continuous learning, not one-way delivery
FAQs
Frequently asked questions
No. Staff augmentation gives you people to direct. We take responsibility for technical direction: a senior principal decides, with you, what to build and how, and our engineers and AI agents deliver it. You get accountable outcomes, not headcount.
Yes, extensively. We are AI-native: agents handle a large share of implementation, testing and documentation. Every piece of work is specified before it's generated and verified before it ships, and an engineer is accountable for it.
A senior technical principal, named at the start of the engagement, owns the technical direction and decides when work is ready for production.
With the Define step: we work with you to understand the problem, the constraints and the systems it has to live alongside, before anyone writes a specification.
